NARRATIVE SUMMARY 21 July 1968 - During mission #78, in support of the 1st Recon. Bn., YK-13 received enemy fire while going into a zone at YC987987. The Crew Chief and both gunners were wounded, fire was returned, and the aircraft made a precautionary landing at ZD048032. The aircraft was later returned to base. 23 July 1968 - One CH-46 from HMM-364, while on a routine test hop was diverted by Phu Bai DASC to pick up two ARMY pilots who had been shot down at YD876226. The pilots were delivered to LZ Eagle; no enemy fire was received. Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 364, sustaining numerous hits from enemy fire, and hampered on occasion by adverse weather, flew 1,319.7 flight hours, carrying 11,103 troops/passengers and 628.95 tons of cargo. The Majority of the hours flown and the troops and cargo lifted was in support of the various phases of OPERATIONS MAMALUKE THRUST, HOUSTON, MAMALUKE/POCOHONTAS FOREST, LANCASTER II, NAPOLEON SALINE, and ALLEN BROOK. This squadron also carried 289 medical evacuees during the month of July. PART III

The intelligence unit recorded enemy activity on a daily basis through squad- ron and adjacent and higher commands. For the month of July. this squad- ron logged 1,319.7 hours of flight. During this time, there were 20 fire inci- dents resulting in 7 aircraft sustaining hits. One of these incidents resulted in three WIAs (minor) for the squadron. Phu Bai received negative incoming for the this month. Among the reports obtained by the intelligence unit of HMM-364 were 1 air burst and 3 spot reports plus accomplishing 33 recon inserts and 25 recon extracts. |
